Furnace Problems Need a Proper Diagnosis

Tandem Mechanical starts with diagnosis. Many furnace problems are isolated repair issues. When the equipment is aging, unsafe, repeatedly failing, or facing a major failure, we’ll explain the repair cost beside the replacement option so you can make an informed decision.

What This Job Entails

Furnace Repair — The Full Breakdown

Exactly what we do, what you get, and what to expect — answered the way a careful customer would ask.

What exactly is included in this service?

  • Full diagnostic assessment of the furnace and controls system
  • Review of system history and reported symptoms with the customer
  • Electrical and combustion testing using calibrated instruments
  • Identification and explanation of root cause before work begins
  • Labor to perform the approved repair
  • System restart, full heating cycle test, and combustion verification after repair
  • Cleanup of the work area
  • Post-repair walkthrough and explanation of findings with customer

What is NOT included?

  • Replacement parts (priced separately based on diagnosis)
  • Permit fees if required by local jurisdiction for certain repairs
  • After-hours or weekend dispatch fees if applicable
  • Duct repair or modification work beyond the furnace unit itself
  • Annual maintenance or tune-up services (separate service offering)

How long does the job take?

Expected duration: 1.5 to 3 hours for most standard repairs such as igniter, flame sensor, capacitor, or control board replacement. More complex repairs involving gas valve replacement, inducer motor, or heat exchanger inspection may require 2 to 4 hours. The technician will provide a time estimate once diagnosis is complete.

Is the work warrantied or guaranteed?

Tandem Mechanical guarantees all repair workmanship for one year from the date of service. If the same failure recurs due to a workmanship issue within that period, we will return to correct it at no additional labor charge. Parts installed carry the manufacturer's warranty, which varies by component and brand — the technician will note the relevant warranty terms for any parts installed during your service visit.

If you're experiencing any of these issues, a technician can diagnose the problem and recommend the right solution.

Repair First

Repair When It Makes Sense. Replace Only When It Makes Sense.

Our first job is to diagnose the problem. We do not assume a failed system automatically needs replacement.

Repair is typically the right choice when the furnace is under 15 years old, the heat exchanger is intact, and the cost of repair is less than roughly one-third of replacement cost. When a furnace is over 15–20 years old, has a cracked heat exchanger, requires repeated costly repairs, or has significantly declined in efficiency, replacement often provides better long-term value and safety. Our technicians will give you an honest assessment of the equipment's condition and remaining useful life so you can make an informed decision — we will never recommend replacement simply to generate a larger sale.

What Customers Say About Our Furnace Repair

“I am a first time home buyer and not familiar with the boiler/heating system in my home and was apprehensive about finding a service provider to service my boiler. I def. made the right choice choosing Tandem Mechanical to service my boiler system. I needed my boiler serviced and Josh and Sam arrived today and serviced the boiler in a professional manner. Josh explained everything they were going to do before they started work. They were punctual, professional and went above and beyond. They also addressed questions I had on two other issues, one which could have been a problem later on if not addressed. I was very impressed with these guys and also the lady I spoke with re: setting up the appointment. Thank you TM! Much appreciated.”
